Are alcoholic beverages permitted on a flight?
I am on vacation in Mexico and leaving back to the U.S. a week from tomorrow. I want to take back a few bottles of tequila, but I'm not sure if i will be allowed to take them on the plane. I'm flying with Volaris Airlines (a Mexican airline) to Oakland, Ca. Would i be able to take a few bottles home with me? If so, how many?

TSA requires that all alcohol (since it will likely be over 3 oz) be placed in checked baggage. Written, they say, "Please note, you can’t take alcoholic beverages with more than 70% alcohol content (140 proof), including 95% grain alcohol and 150 proof rum, in your checked luggage. You may take up to five liters of alcohol with alcohol content between 24% and 70% per person as checked luggage if it’s packaged in a sealable bottle or flask. Alcoholic beverages with less than 24% alcohol content are not subject to hazardous materials regulations."

Don't take any alcoholic beverages with you on the plane, leave them all in your baggage.

You can only bring one litre of alcohol into the US duty free. If you purchased the alcohol before the security checkpoint, you can put the booze in you check-in luggage. Any amounts of liquids in your carry on luggage will have to be 3.4 oz (100ml.) or less, larger bottles purchased in a duty free shop after the security checkpoint are allowed on the plane. You are allowed to bring more than one litre, but anything over the one litre duty free allowance must be declared and duty will need to paid on amounts over one litre. http://www.worldtravelguide.net/country/292/duty_free_section/North-America/United-States-of-America.html
