Cheapest airlines/airline tickets?
I am flying, round trip, from Oakland to Washington DC. I am planning to fly next year on august 2009. I am wondering what airline offers the cheapest airline tickets. Is buying the ticket from a website cheaper (ex-expedia.com), or should I buy the tickets from the airline website? How big of a difference will it be? Also, when should I book my flight? Please tell me what airline and how much the cost will be.

Buy your tickets directly from the website. Lately I have noticed that Delta Airlines is the cheapest. When you use travel agent websites they charge a website fee in addition to the plane ticket.

Use travelocity to find the cheapest ticket then go directly to the site and book it!

You can find the cheapest plane tickets at FlyAirfares.com

First of all, you won't be able to book your ticket for a couple of months yet, since most airlines won't ticket more than 330 days out. Fares aren't loaded yet, so there is no way of knowing where your best options are. With the upcoming capacity cuts, you're better off buying sooner rather than later IF your plans are firm. If they aren't - the change fees might be more than the difference in fare, so keep this in mind. The fare you get 330 days out will likely not be the lowest fare that the airline offers on that routing, but there is no way to reliably predict when the lowest fare will be offered. This will depend on a variety of factors, including demand. It's also probable that in that time your flights will change since airlines adjust their schedules all the time. Long story short, there are a lot of unknowns, but by buying early you lock in a maximum price for your airfare. If the fare goes down you can always refare the ticket and get credit for the difference, but if the fare goes up you're out of luck. Hope this helps.

The airlines may not have their schedule yet so you may not be able to find a flight yet. However I would recommend you purchase your ticket from the airline directly. They sometimes have specials the travel websites do not know about. Airlines want you to buy your tickets from them so they do not have to pay commissions to the travel websites. JetBlue actually flies from Oakland to Washington Dulles nonstop.
