Flying without identification?
My mom and I have a plane to catch tomorrow from Kansas City to Oakland. I have been all over the place over the past couple of weeks, and when I was looking for my passport (my ID) earlier, I couldn't find it. I realized that I likely left it at my grandma's house. She lives two hours away, and if it comes to it, we can drive there and back this evening, but I was wondering what the rule is about flying without identification. My mom does have her identification with her. I am 17 years old, and my mom has the flight in her name. My aunt said that she called Southwest (our airline), and a lady told her that because it is in her name, and she bought it online, there wouldn't be a problem getting me in the airport. That goes against my common sense, but if she said it, I will take it at her word. Has anybody had this come up with them, flying without having ID available? And do you think it might not be as big a deal, considering that I am a minor? Well, I have no ID with me. My passport, a copy of my birth certificate, and my school ID were all in a pouch that was left there.

since your under 18 years old you technically don't need an official ID, a school ID will be sufficient however it's always better to have some sort of official ID just to be safe. You should be fine.

You cannot fly without some sort of ID. You need the School Id or the Passport or you are not flying. If you do not have ID you cannot get the boarding pass and even if you manage to get it out of the Kiosk, TSA will send you back to the counter without ID. I work in the airport. Trust me. You need the ID.

If you are below 18, you do not need an ID. -Keagan

Since you're under 18, you are not required to present photo identification.
