Effects of the downhill economy, or am I just challenged?
I am trying to book a flight to vegas from oakland california using orbitz, priceline, cheaptickets, etc. and ALL the flights have atleast 1 stop, taking me clear out to New York, Utah, or Miami before hours of lay over and then BACK across the country to Vegas. This requires a full day (or more) of travel and the ticket price doesn't seem cheap enough to go through all of that. I had heard airlines were struggling, is this proof of this or am I just not finding the right deals...?

Try Yahoo travel, it searchs some airlines they don't. Southwest and JetBlue are great. Also consider flying from SF as well if you can get a non-stop. I had to fly from Austin, TX to West Palm Beach, FL unexpectedly two weeks ago for a funeral. It was cheaper to fly to Ft. Lauderdale. It was also cheaper to fly from Austin and change in Houston, than to drive to Houston and fly non-stop from there. Go figure.
