Being a teacher or flight attendant?
I finished my BA degree in Social Sciences two years ago. I went back to finish it up. Im in my late 30's. I was offered a job as a flight attendant for Southwest Airlines(good company) I was also offered a teaching position for a elementary school. Both jobs are low-moderate pay. But Iim looking at my future. How do I want to spend the next 20 years of my life? 1.)Teaching - with a pension after 20 years OR 2.)Having fun as a flight attendant traveling and seeing the country and seeing my family, friends out West but with no pension at the end. Tough decision. Both jobs offer great benefits. Southwest pays $20 an hour flight time. I'm guaranteed 80 hours a month. I can get overtime if I want. May have to move to Oakland base. I live in Florida. I'm single with no kids. However, teaching will open up more doors for me. I could get a Masters degree and teach for money at a higher level. Wont see family, friends much out West. Im all alone here. Whats the smartest decision?

It's a tough call because traveling is amazing, but I'd have to say teaching. It has an array of things that you can do aside from teaching; for example, tutoring, after school programs, the possibility of getting an advanced degree (maybe even free) etc...If traveling is what you adore, with summers off you can use that time to see the world. Hope this helps.

If you really have to ask, be the flight attendant. Enjoy it as long as you want and travel the world. When you don't want to do it anymore and still love the idea of teaching, then give it a try. And, if you think you really would like to teach, be a substitute on the days you don't fly. Make a difference for a child.

I would say teaching because whether or not you take the flight attendant job, as long as you have the money, you can travel to other countries. My cousin is a flight attendant and she doesn't like it because it is not a set schedule. Always random but they give it to you in advanced. The thing about the illusion of being able to travel as a flight attendant is that sometimes, the visit is so short that they don't even let you off the plane. Usually, the stays are only a maximum of 1 day (though it is enough to do your shopping and partying). That's why I think you should teach.

Both jobs are completely different! First and foremost I would say do what you WANT to do...do what will make you the most happy! You can get some excellent savings plans to save for retirement with being a flight attendant, you just have to DO them! You can always try to teach for a year first and then if you don;t like it, become a flight attendant. Teaching is WAY more stressful.

It really depends which job interests you the most. But, I would say go for teaching. You might think, oh wow, I get to travel all around the world, but believe me, you will get bored very soon. And maybe it's just me, I am afraid of getting on planes (but I still have to at least once in 6 months)...because you know accidents happen, not that I hope you meet with accidents...and people hijack your plane especially these days where tourists are crazy...like seriously and then you know you get lots of health disadvantages by just frequently being on the plane - pressure and all that. Teaching is way better because you get to teach children and you just can't imagine the satisfaction you get out of teaching especially when your students get good marks. Since you said that the pays are kinda same, go for teaching. You will like it. After you earn enough money, you still can travel around the world if you want and visit your relatives and friends out West. Teaching is more relaxing and you get to know lots of people - students, parents and you get school holidays off. While flying, you don't really have a set schedule, they just call you or send you something telling you when you can fly and all. It's really tiring to be a flight attendant...! And as you said, teaching you get pension at the end...and then you can travel using the pension instead of being a flight attendant..you don't know what you will end up being...well just my opinion. At last, just remember, all jobs have advantages and disadvantages. Just go with what you think interests you the most because you are going to work for most of the rest of your life. "Listen to your heart...it's on your left side...but it's always right...in the end of the day!"
