$240k awarded to man forced t cover t-shirt...please keep reading...?
Jarrar, a US resident, was apprehended as he waited to board a JetBlue flight from New York to Oakland, California, and told to remove his shirt, which had written on it in Arabic: "We will not be silent." He was told other passengers felt uncomfortable because an Arabic-inscribed T-shirt in an airport was like "wearing a T-shirt at a bank stating, I am a robber,'" the ACLU said. does this seem fair? when a man with no intention of hurting anyone was forced to take of the shirt?! i believe that some people in america just really need to stop being racist! please give your views on this subject! are you with or against the passenger?! i apprecaite any answers given! please note that i am on the muslim passengers side clearly because i believe he is a victim and falsely accused and the money was pobably the best way to say sorry! there are still issues of racism all over the world and i posted this question to raise awarness of the matter! thank you all for the answers (very wise!) the 9/11 incident was tragic to both americans and muslims alike! since then racist issues have arised and the war began! please note that we muslims did not like what happened on that day, it's just the fact that we are now victims and being called terrorists! and ths is just a classic example!

I'm glad he one 240 thousand. I wish it was more.

I think people are blowing all things out of proportion with lawsuits. I would just nod and walk away.

TSA is stupid in general, and this is a shining example. I don't know if he deserved that much money, but the passenger definitely deserved something for the discrimination.
4 :
I agree. He should be able to wear any shirt he wants. รข™¥

I agree that the man was discriminated against. People are so ignorant. Should I be able to make Christians cover their Jesus t-shirts because I am uncomfortable with a picture of a dead man on a cross? Honestly.

I think fear makes people do stupid things. The only thing worse than one fearful bigot is a group of fearful bigots with a common cause. One of my employees at the time of 9/11 was a Hindu woman from India. She experienced all manner of harassment from hateful people who assumed she was Muslim. It was a terrible time.

Glad he got the money. This is what happens when you go among such people, alas.

Thats the ACLU for ya. No he should have had to take it off. Its a direct threat

Yeah, and I read that he was moved to the BACK of the plane. I think he deserved every penny he got. That's crazy of them to act like that. And have you thought about WHY the airline officials did this? It's because there are so many silly people out there that MAKE them do things like this. Silly, racist, and uninformed.

It could have read "Drink your milk and brush your teeth" but our populace is so paranoid that anything middle eastern is viewed with suspicion and fear. It's ridiculous. People even get uncomfortable when you talk about going to eat at a middle eastern restaurant, as if you're giving money to "the enemy", when it's just some people trying to make a living like everyone else. It's stupid.

Well he shouldn't have been forced to cover his shirt, because that's not even offensive. But that's an awful lot of money...

i am thrilled to hear he won the law suit. it is completely ridiculous hearing people complain about someone wearing a shirt and not feeling comfortable because it has arabic writting on it i go into airports in band shirt with anarchist statements written on them and have not had one complaint

I'm with the passenger. I don't like the ACLU. I think that they get rewards that are absolutely ridiculous sums but, the guy had a right to sue. The idiots at Jetblue should be fired.

First reaction - "Are you kidding me?!" I am surprised to read this. Sorry to doubt but is there a link for this story? If it is true then I am sad to see how our rights and freedom is being taken away. If it made an anti American statement and reference to bombing in Arabic I would understand this better but "we will not be silent"?? Still, 240K is alot of money. I think things are getting out of control with lawsuits.

He deserved the money. Sadly, Whitey McWhiteskin could wear any kind of racist or offensive shirts he wanted and nobody would probably bat an eyelash. However, once Muslims are involved, we're automatically associated with terrorism. Thankfully I haven't had any issues thus far, probably because I have brown hair, a red beard and blue/green eyes and try to keep under the radar. Just like the Muslim family that got kicked off the plane in Virginia, Muslims are discriminated against simply for being Muslims. Even after the FBI (the FBI!!!) cleared the family, the plane company would not rebook them, even at the FBI's insistence. Christians complain all the time about being discriminated against for wanting to have religion be allowed more openly in society, yet they don't seem to mind ruining someone else's day. In the end, America claims that racism is a solved problem, when it's still very much alive and well here, not only against people of Middle Eastern descent, but against African Americans, Latinos, etc. It's really sad.

i'm glad he won. What a stupid thing, being afraid because it said something in Arabic. Did they forget a little something called freedom of speech?
17 :
nope... it was stupid to even WEAR the shirt into an airport.... he was asking for trouble and he got it.....

I am with you. My family had been friends to Muslims while in Zamboanga City up to the present. My heart bleeds every time I heard you being called terrorist. God has put in my heart a burden to explain to the whole world that you are His people and He had set a time for you and your people to be exalted. Take your time and be patient God is always with you as He was before with Ishmael. God promised to bless him and God took good care of him in the wilderness. Genesis 21:17-18 And God heard the voice of the lad. Then the angel of the Lord called to Hagar out of heaven, and said to her, "What ails you you, Hagar? Fear not, for God has heard the voice of the lad where he is. Arise, lift up the lad and hold him with your hand, for I will make him a great nation. You are a great nation and people will look at you in the future.
