Why do the Mets bite so badly?
This one is bound to get a good response. The Mets are a joke, the Oakland Raiders of Major League Baseball. I beg the pardon of members of Raiders Nation, but really. It's that bad. Everything the Mets do turns to poo, even when they try to do the right thing. Is there anything - anything at all - that the poor Metropolitans can do that will reverse their cursed ways? Maybe they could trade David Wright so he can actually play for a contender while fetching top flight talent in return. Possibly, Omar Minaya will go out and sign an even older back-up catcher. Maybe they trade Jose Reyes for a new Gatorade cooler. Whatever the case may be, we all know the Kings of Queens need help -and Jason Bay - last time I looked, didn't have a halo over his Forest Hills-livin' Canadian head. What on Earth do the Mets have to do to impose their will once again on the NL East? Lay it down for me, because I'm really bored and really curious...

cause they suck!

If the Yankees fell victim to all the injuries we had in 2009 they would have finished last in their division. Understand that the key is for the squad to remain healthy.

The Mets would need to abandon their current infrastructure. Replace Omar and rebuild from the ground up. 1. Rebuild the pitching, Ollie/Maine/Pelfrey... SEE YA 2. Trade Reyes for some top flight talent, he's not a winning player. 3. Spend the money they have wisely instead of idiotic expenditures like Jason Bay. 4. Pull the fences in at Citi Field by at least 10 - 15 feet. It will allow you actually sign a free agent slugger who would want to join your team.

Its simple really, its case their the Mets. :]

never seem to find the right chemistry

I don't think you could really base the whole team's skill by last season. Every team has their mountain highs, and valley lows. The mets may not be the best team in baseball but trust me, there are worse teams. They just don't play well together, I think some players should be dropped and hired and maybe they will play better next season.

Check out the organizational decision-making flowchart. It indirectly explains a lot. http://www.amazinavenue.com/2010/1/16/1254101/mets-organizational-decision

I happen to be a long time Mets and Raiders fan. Mets since 1962 and Raiders since 1969. Because I have class I'll leave it at that.

Minaya is the reason. This guy could turn a racehorse into a jack@ss.

Injuries to Santana, Reyes, Delgado, Maine, Perez, Putz, Niece, plus Castillo can't catch a pop-up

get a better GM who know how to sign, draft, and pick player

1) They need to bring in an experienced baseball czar to run the entire organization. Give the guy a budget and turn him loose with full power on baseball decisions. 2) They need to stop worrying about every little rumor in the press and just go about their business. Talk radio and the yahoos that call up should not have a say in how your organization is run. 3) They need to recognize they are the Mets and not the Dodgers. Celebrate the Mets history. There is plenty of it. 4) Bring in the fences. A pitcher's park won't work in 2010 and beyond.

Injuries, plain & simple. A healthy rotation led by Santana, Pelfry, Maine & Perez, all starting 30+ games will make all the difference in the world. Last season: Perez - 14 starts. Maine, 25 starts. Santana, 25 starts. Pelfrey started 31 games, and as near as I can tell, had no excuses for his off season; he can be better in 2010. Also, losing the firepower of Degado, Reyes & Beltran hurt big time; there were plenty of other injuries to go around as well. If your crew cant take the field, it wont matter how talented they are. Perhaps the loss of Beltran for however long isn't a very good portend of things to come, but lets see if better health doesn't make a difference this season. And if adding Bays' bat isnt the whole answer, it sure wont hurt.

trade castillo and k-rod for carlos zambrano. They need need to covert john maine and his 96mph fastball to a closer role. They also need to sign John Garland to a one year deal worth 7,000,000 for the third spot in the rotation. They then can have pelfrey, jon niese, Nieve, and Oliver perez compete for the last 2 spots in the rotation and who ever doesn;t make it will get sent to the minor leagues. The mets messed up big time by not signing a bargain like aubrey huff or troy glaus for first base. They each signed for 3 million. The mets also messed up by not trading for kevin millwood. the orioles got him fo nothing. it all comes down to pitching. all of the teams that competein the playoffs have a solid pitching staff.
